The American Academy of Sports Physical Therapy selected the theme of "The Female Athlete" as the 2020 Team Concept Conference focus as a way to highlight this very specific niche within the sports PT speciality. AASPT is sensitive to the fact that most female athletes prefer to just be called an "athlete.” Like their male counterparts, many females in the sports industry are asking for the same treatment without a specific callout to their gender. The Academy worked closely with the Female Athlete SIG to create this year's theme and artwork. With the SIG’s input, expertise, and experiences the decision was made to cross out "Female" in this year's conference title to align with the mission of helping those athletes that identify as female to feel included and heard.
